This road is the Via Romea Senese: https://www.visittuscany.com/it/itinerari/via-romea-sanese-firenze-siena/
Last year we tried alternatives solutions to this one and here is the link:https://www.komoot.com/tour/1257667306?ref=wtd&share_token=ap7KBk7FvwXOgNTYCDOiyTeEn22PcZbmCGHzoEY4mGOeHt4hyl
This gravel bike ride instead is the first day on the way to Rome, loved it:
A good combination of gravel and backroads for a proper solid gravel bike ride to Siena.
Gravel bike around Siena
Ride along the Eroica
The guide is created to give you some ideas for your gravel rides in Tuscany during your holiday.
We always recommend to be physically prepared properly for the trips and never go alone. The right way of gravel riding is with friends to share the adventure.
Gravel riding in Tuscany requires a good level of fitness so be prepared and equipped for the adventure.
Siena is the paradise of gravel
The first adventure is the Eroica course is permanently preserved and protected by local authorities.

This gravel bike ride in Tuscany covers a huge amount of territory and amazing scenic routes.
La Via Lauretana from Siena to Cortona
The second Idea is the Via Lauretana Toscan from Siena to Cortona. This route can be done hiking or biking.
We have done biking but our track is not available because we followed the wrong one. We have rode along normal roads instead of the gravel roads by accident.
So we are talking with the authorities to have on the website the right track.
Probability when you will read this, we have the updated route.
We love to do bike + train so this is the quintessential of this type of adventures.
We took an early train from Florence at 6:20 am and we took a train back from Cortona at 2:24 pm.
It was perfect. LOVE IT!!!
This gravel bike ride is truly amazing, it can be exhausting in a day but at the end the version that we did it was 90 km and in 5 hours we rode the entire track (the frst 30km on road)
The link below is for the final 54 km from Asciano to Cortona on gravel using different apps.
Rolling hills, mud, ups and downs and white roads!!! Love it
A nice website for the Siena area you can find it here: https://www.terredisiena.it/cammini-outdoor/la-via-lauretana/
Gravel ride along the Via Francigena
As special deserved mentioned is for the Via francigena gravel ride from San Miniato to Siena.
The same concept of Bike + Train experience.
We did it in a day but it can be tough for someone.
We took the train in the Morning from Florence to San miniato and off we went.
The section between San Miniato and Gambassi it truly stunning
To be honest I would have changed the part between San Gimignano to Monteriggioni. Our track was good but surely the original path is better.
Here is the link for the original section: https://www.viefrancigene.org/it/resource/statictrack/da-san-gimignano-a-siena-tappa-16-in-bici/
Train back from Siena direct to Florence. What a day! Marvellous
